Description
TIS-247 — ignition module with crank angle sensor for Chevrolet Matiz, 2005–2007. Replaces 93740951.
What it is and where it sits. A base plate carrying an integrated power module in a potted housing. It mounts inside the distributor, under the cap. The sensing element and the output power stage — the igniter that switches the coil primary — share one housing, so the unit replaces both. “Hall sensor” in the name is the market label for this unit: a photo does not establish the type of sensing element inside the potted housing.
This is not a crankshaft position sensor (CKP) mounted on the engine block near the pulley. The distributor is camshaft-driven and turns at half crankshaft speed. Catalogues list the same part as an ignition module, igniter or distributor Hall sensor.
How it works. The unit both generates the timing signal and switches the coil primary itself, so a failure kills the spark completely even with a healthy coil and plugs.
Symptoms that point to this unit. The pattern typical of an integrated igniter is a warm engine stalling abruptly, as if the ignition had been switched off, and restarting only after it cools down. How long it runs before stalling and how long it needs to cool depends on the engine, the layout and the conditions — we quote no intervals for this part number. Weak or intermittent spark under load, flat spots on acceleration and unstable idle when warm are also possible. The coil and the wiring produce the same symptoms, so a symptom alone does not prove this unit has failed.
Before replacing. Check on a hot engine at the moment of failure: is there spark, is there supply and an input signal. No spark with supply and signal present points to the output stage, but does not replace checking the coil and the wiring. A common technique is to warm the unit with a heat gun and repeat the check: a heat-related fault often reproduces this way, though the absence of a fault does not prove the unit is good. Make sure the ignition coil is not shorted — a failed coil overloads the output transistor and can destroy a new unit.
