Specifications
Numbers the manufacturer's catalogue lists next to this part, grouped by maker. The OE unit's maker comes first. The catalogue does not always state what a number is: it may be the part's own marking or the number of the distributor it fits into.

Which cars it fits
Each row is a separate version as listed by the manufacturer. Years are quoted exactly as the source states them and do not form one continuous compatibility range.

What to check before ordering
- The marking stamped on the removed part: a J, RSB or OE number.
- The number on the complete distributor, if it is legible.
- The connector pin count and the mounting shape.
- The engine, model year and body code of the car.
Send a photo of the part along with these details and we will tell you which part number fits.
Description
TIS-284 — ignition control module for . Replaces Mitsubishi J520.
What it is and where it sits. A standalone ignition module: a flat potted housing with mounting lugs and a connector, with no sensor plate and no shaft bore. Inside is the power transistor that switches the ignition coil primary winding.
This is not a crankshaft position sensor (CKP) mounted on the engine block near the pulley. The distributor is camshaft-driven and turns at half crankshaft speed. Catalogues list the same part as an ignition module, igniter or distributor Hall sensor.
How it works. The module takes a logic signal from the sensor or ECU and switches the coil primary. A failure kills the spark completely even with a healthy coil and plugs.
Symptoms that point to this unit. A warm engine stalling abruptly and restarting after it cools down; weak or intermittent spark under load; flat spots on acceleration; no spark at all with a healthy coil and sensor. Each of these has other possible causes, so rule out the coil, the wiring and the sensor before replacing this unit.
Before replacing. Check on a hot engine at the moment of failure: is there spark, is there supply and an input signal. No spark with supply and signal present points to the output stage, but does not replace checking the coil and the wiring. A common technique is to warm the unit with a heat gun and repeat the check: a heat-related fault often reproduces this way, though the absence of a fault does not prove the unit is good. Make sure the ignition coil is not shorted — a failed coil overloads the output transistor and can destroy a new unit.
